sounds of our town

hosted by Jumping Fences

Welcome to the homepage of Foco Nuevo, the regular performance space for Jumping Fences, where we hold concerts on the First Friday of every month.

Our home base is Kurilpa Hall at 174 Boundary Street West End.

7th February, 2020

Doors open 7.00 pm. Concert starts 7.30 pm.

We're kicking off 2020 with a bang - two outstanding guest performers; Aria-nominated Sarah Calderwood, and ‘one of Australia's leading contemporary songwriters’, Steve Tyson. Don't miss it!

PRICING CHANGES Thanks to all of you who completed our survey. The results showed that our audience valued highly the good listening environment and the program above all other factors. Surprisingly a significant percentage of respondents walk to the venue. Your responses helped us with our difficult decisions about dealing with increasing costs and venue location. Late last year Kurilpa Hall decided to again increase our rent significantly, therefore to stay put we need to increase our admission prices. We hope the increase won't disadvantage anyone, and if it is a problem please let us know. From February they will be: Full $15 and Concession $9.

So, as Foco Nuevo heads towards its 12th birthday, we look forward to seeing you soon.

Steve Tyson: Well-known to Brisbane audiences as a member of worldly folk-rock band Rough Red and via the release of three solo albums, Byron Bay-based singer-songwriter Steve Tyson has presented his music live in a variety of formats, most recently performing at the Tamworth Country Music Festival with his swaggering alt-country band, Steve Tyson & The Train Rex.

Steve will be joined onstage by guitarist Ian Shawsmith. Together they will be performing Steve's contemporary folk songs that are influenced by everything from The Beatles to the blues, but are decidedly Australian in content. [Website]

Sarah Calderwood is a multi award-nominated singer/songwriter who writes about love, loss, not fitting in, vanilla cities, chocolate crushes, redemption, salvation, heartache, heartbreak, happiness and Anne Boleyn.

As lead singer of renowned Celtic and Americana bands Súnas and RedCrow, she has toured extensively in Australia and overseas, played at most folk and roots festivals and released four acclaimed albums.

Her new album, In The Forest of Things sees Sarah venture into complex, emotive paths with deeply personal songs that draw from her experiences, feelings and passions. Sarah anchors her music in the space where tradition and innovation intertwine. [chơi đánh bạc online]

Jumping Fences play a unique fusion of Latin American and original songs, creating a sensitive insight into the daily struggles of people. The song-writing partnership of Sue Monk and Lachlan Hurse, together with James Harper and Ross Gwyther play arrangements that move easily between tenderness and energy, supporting lyrics that weave a rich fabric from the poetry of everyday life.
